BENIN CITY—MAJORITY Leader of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Philip Shaibu, yesterday, faulted the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, who described State Houses of Assembly as appendages of the state governors.
He declared that contrary to the Senate President’s belief, the Senate, under the “leadership of David Mark, had not been only an appendage of President Jonathan’s administration, but also a stooge to the outgoing Federal Government.”
He said: ”Mark does not have the locus standi to say that the 36 state Houses of Assembly are appendages of the governors. He lacks the moral authority to speak on the issue of appendage, when he is more than an appendage of the Presidency under Jonathan.
“Senator Mark’s eight years as Senate President have undermined the people of Nigeria in terms of motions and bills that should have helped better the lives of our people.
“As we speak over 29 bills and reports from the House of Reps are awaiting Senate approval. That is to tell you how the Senate has become a rubber stamp under David Mark. If there is any legislative chambers that is an appendage of any executive it is the senate under David Mark.”
