Bauchi—No fewer than 9,208 birds have been killed, following outbreak of Avian Influenza, popularly called Bird Flu, in three local government areas of Bauchi State.

The commissioner overseeing the Ministry of Animal Resources and Nomadic Resettlement in the state, Alhaji Umar Giade, confirmed the outbreak during a sensitization visit to Toro Local Government Area.

He  said ten poultry farms had been affected by the disease in the three local government areas of Katagum, Bauchi and Toro.

According to Umar Giade, “a total of 558 species of birds in seven poultry farms in Toro local government have been affected, out of which 9,208 were killed.”

He added that Toro local government area had the highest population of poultry farms in the state due to the conducive weather and peaceful nature of the area.
