Agbaje warns supporters against electoral violence

LAGOS—The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has called on his supporters to eschew violence ahead of the coming general election.

Agbaje, who spoke against the backdrop of a peace pact signed by governorship candidates in the state, said no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of violence.

The PDP candidate noted that he was particularly happy that not a single death had been recorded since kick starting his campaign across the state.

Agbaje, who spoke during his campaign in Mushin and Oshodi/Isolo yesterday, called on party members to continue to be law abiding.

According to him, this is the major reason loyalists were asked not to retaliate when his campaign materials were defaced on the third Mainland Bridge by APC members.

Agbaje directed that the items be left to enable Lagosians see the dictatorship of the ruling party, adding that “I want to let you know that there is no reason for us to be violent because whatever the form, the coming election is going to take, we shall defeat them.”

Noting that the PDP abhorred any form of violence by any person or group, the governorship candidate said “everybody has seen that we have better ideas as a party, let us continue to be peaceful because victory is ours”.

He blamed the absence of infrastructure facilities after 16 years on the ruling APC in Lagos, saying the party’s performance had been far from satisfactory, as the people could hardly boast of even potable water.

Agbaje, however, promised to correct gaps created by the APC under his administration, but told the people that the dividends of these could only be enjoyed by the living who he said should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and other PDP candidates for a secured future.
