BENIN CITY— OUTgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Osayuki Oshodin, yesterday, formally handed over the baton of leadership to the new Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Faraday Orhunmwense.

He noted that some former officials of the university fought him during his tenure due to his alleged refusal to share N400 million monthly with them.

According to him, “What do I need N400 million a month for? What will I do with it? I will become mad on the streets of Benin. I said I don’t need it.”

Oshodin, whose five years tenure ended yesterday, said shortly after a thanksgiving ceremony at his residence in Benin City, that he incurred the wrath of many people in the university which led to him being poisoned, adding, that government should appoint people who are ready to work and not to line their pockets as vice chancellors.

“It has been really interesting, I believe I have done my best I had a mission and a vision and I had a strategic plan only known to me and I am happy that I implemented all these strategic plans which were deficiencies before I took over as Vice Chancellor.

I met resistance from the devils, and I stood my ground and they tried to eliminate me several times but they didn’t succeed. If you have God on your side, they will not succeed.

“People did not know they were fighting me because I blocked their ways of embezzling allocations sent to the university.”
