ENUGU— THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Enugu State Chapter has tasked members of the newly inaugurated local government councils in the state to show more commitment to the ongoing development of the state by initiating good programmes that would ensure rapid development of the grassroots.
Governor Sullivan Chime swore in last week, the 17 local government council chairmen elected on the platform of the PDP during the 5 December 2009 local government election, while the PDP 260 councilors elected were inaugurated by the various council chairmen, also last week.
The state chairman of the party, Mr. Vita Abba, in a congratulatory message to the council chairmen, 11 of who were re-elected for second term, said the renewal of their mandate for another two years was a testimony of their commitment towards the transformation process of the state.
“As a subject of democratic values, we are confident that your wealth of experience, political ingenuity and great penchant for the ideals of our party as evident in the four-point agenda of the state government, will bring about more positive changes to the local government areas,†Abba said.
While thanking the people of the state for voting for PDP in the council polls, the PDP chairman further tasked the new council chairmen to ensure that their administrations were devoid of rancor and bickering, especially between the executive and legislative arms.
He said that the party was poised to monitor the implementation of programmes and manifestoes of PDP in the various local government areas, saying that this would ensure that the council chairmen lived up to expectation as well as match the good governance bar already set by Governor Chime through his four-point agenda.
