In its desire to contribute to the development of education in Nigeria, Cool World, a subsidiary of PZ Cussons, in Lagos, gave five grant winners during the weekend N200,000 each. Thus in two years, the company has offered scholarships of N5.6 million to 10 Nigerian students whose parents patronise their products.

Speaking at the “Back to School’ raffle draw held at CoolWorld, Adeola Odeku in Lagos, its Brand Manager, Mr Olawande Alaran said: “The essence of the programme is to give back to the society and to promote education in Nigeria considering the fact that education in Nigeria is dwindling gradually and some parents find it difficult to pay school fees.

“So we decided to give back to parents to enable them pay for their students’ tuition. We hold this programme every August and September to assist parents in payment of school fees because that is when schools resume. We see it as an opportunity to assist our consumers.”

He explained that parents who are qualified to obtain the raffle tickets for the education grant are those who have purchased any Haier Thermocool and TEC products worth N50,000 and above between August to September every year.

Alaran who disclosed that the Consumer Protection Councils and National Lottery are aware of the promo,urged those who newly won the Back to School promo to come for their collection. “If the winners are not present on the raffle draw day, we call them immediately to notifying them. After that, we invite them to our office alongside the Consumer Protection Councils and National Lottery for collection. This is the fourth time we are giving back to the society via this education programme.”

Just as the names were written on their raffle tickets, the winners include; Charles O. Florence, Sanni Yemisi, Godwin Odey Agama and Bar Idadiaba. Each winners was given scholarship of N200,000.

Mr Adewole Oluwaseyi, one of the customers who was at the raffle draw said that though he has about four Thermocool products at home, he was not disappointed that he was not among the five winners in August – September edition. He said: “It is a game of luck. If you are buying anything, you are not buying because you want to win. We will still continue with them because their products are good.

Mr Kehinde Bello, also a customers present at the raffle draw said. “I did not win because it is a game of luck.”

On her part, Adaku Ijara UBA Trustees said: “We are custodians of the money that is disbursed to the winners. We don’t give them cash, but we pay directly to the education institution of the recipients.”
