Maryam Babangida immortalised self, says Obasanjo-Bello

SENATOR Iyabo Obasanjo – Bello says Mrs. Maryam Babangida would be remembered for the Better Life Programme she initiated as the nation’s First Lady.

In a condolence message to the husband, General Ibrahim Babangida, the senator described the deceased as a role model to the female folks and a foremost crusader to bring attention to the need to give rural women economic activity to improve their lives.”

I have visited projects which she started, such as the Akwete Weaving Cooperative outside Port-Harcourt and know the impact it had on the lives of the rural women who were mostly peasant farmers.

“When the history of the nation’s first families, past and present are written, Hajia’s name will feature prominently because of her admirable carriage and ability to influence positive actions for women,” she stated.
