Lagos – The Lagos State Baseball and Softball Association (LSBSA) on Monday expressed the confidence that its players would grab all available slots at the forthcoming Major League Baseball tryout in Lagos.

The tryout is an annual programme of the International Baseball body to select players from African countries to play in foreign leagues.

The association’s Technical Director, Robert Onyuikwe, said that the players were well prepared for the competition that would hold from Sept. 26 to Sept. 28.

Onyuikwe said the state had talented players that possessed the requirement needed to be selected by the MLB resource person.

“We have been preparing our players steadily for this year’s tryout in order to ensure they put up a good performance.

“We always make sure that our players train twice a week to increase their fitness level and work on their technical lapses.

“Although we don’t know the exact number of players they will select, but with all our effort, we are hopeful our players will get whatever slot that will be available,’’ he said.

The technical director advised the players to take advantage of the programme to further their career in the sport, noting that the tryout would be competitive.

“Other states must have been preparing their players ahead of the tryout which will make it more competitive.

“It’s a lifetime opportunity for all the players that will participate, so I am advising my players to do all the needful and seize the opportunity to build their career,’’ Onyuikwe added. (NAN)
