Sokoto releases N6m for free treatment of indigent patients

Sokoto—The Sokoto State Government has released six million Naira (N6m) for free treatment of indigent patients, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, Chairman of the State Zakat Endowment Committee, has said.

Maidoki told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, yesterday in Sokoto that the monthly subvention was to alleviate the sufferings of the beneficiaries.

“This monthly gesture, which has been sustained since 2007, greatly helps in saving a lot of lives,” he said.

Also speaking, Alhaji Nura Attajiri, Chairman, Health Sub-committee, said the government released two million Naira and N500,000 to patients’ welfare committees of the Uthman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, and the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, respectively.

Attajiri said N300,000 was released to the Maryam Abacha Hospital, and the Women and Children Hospitals both in Sokoto.

He said another N400,000 was earmarked for the purchase of special food for diabetic patients, while N300,000 was for ‘special cases’, among others.
