The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Mr Shua’aibu Gambo, said on Wednesday that 33 armed robbery suspects were arrested in the 23 local government areas of the state in 2013.

Gambo said this in Sokoto in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the activities of the command in the preceding year.

He said that 33 murder suspects were also arrested during the period.

Gambo noted that the figure was, however, lower than what was recorded in 2012 when a total of 43 armed robbery and 40 murder suspects were arrested.

The commissioner said that 13 different weapons were recovered from the suspects in 2013.

He also gave figures of other suspects arrested during the period to include 335 for theft, 11 for house breaking, two for kidnapping, six for rape, five for breach of public peace and four for fraud.

NAN reports that in 2012, the police had apprehended 350 suspects for theft, 56 for breach of peace, 22 for rape and 74 for assault in different parts of the state.

He assured residents that the command had put in place various security measures to stop criminal activities across the state this year.

“All we want from the members of the general public is vital information on the movements of dubious characters for prompt security action,” he said.

Gambo urged all policemen under the command to work hard at ensuring the success of various measures put in place to secure the state.(NAN)
