Despite the 10-0 thrashing of their Sierra-Leonian counter-parts in the first leg of the FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup qualifier in Abuja, Falconets coach Peter Dedevbo has said he is unimpressed with the quality of his team.

The Falconnets are billed to travel on Thursday next week to Freetown for the second leg of the encounter that will be played on November 9, but according to coach Dedevbo, he is working hard with the players to improve on their play.

‘’I was not impressed with their game, I mean the way they played in the first leg. Agreed that we scored a lot of goals, it was a against a team that is not as good as us. I want my players to raise their game, there has to be an improvement, because we will be meeting tougher teams along the line,” said the coach.

He added that the Falconets have been training hard for tie in Freetown the result in Abuja notwithstanding, stating that the ultimate ambition was not just to qualify for the world cup billed for August 19 to September 8 in Canada, but also to win the trophy. The Falconets coach by Edwin Okon  finished forth in the 2012 tournament in Japan.

Dedevbo said he was aiming to improve on that outing. Most of the girls in the team are members of the Under-17 squad that the coach took to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Azerbaijan.

They were stopped in the quarter-finals by France that eventually won the tournament. In that tournament, Nigeria was accused of fielding overage players, however the coach stated that his current Under-20 squad has no overage player.

The African qualifiers for Canada 2014 will be played on a home-and-away basis between September 2013 and 24 January 2014. Two spots at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup are up for grabs.
