THE Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has marked the multi-billion naira property, A-Class Park, belonging to Senator Aisha Alhassan, a member of the Alhaji Kawu Baraje faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for demolition.

But Senator Alhassan, PDP, Taraba North has described the 48 hours given to her on Thursday which expires today to vacate the event centre at Kashim Ibrahim Way, Maitama, Abuja, as an act of witch-hunt and persecution.

The Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, AMMC, of the FCT, in a demolition notice, on September 26, this year, had ordered A-Class Park to “remove all structures on the Transit Way within two weeks.”

The Senator who is the Chairman of A-Class Events Management Services Ltd, said even the park opposite her three hectares park on the transit way corridor Maitama A06 District was not affected in the demolition.

According to her, A-Class Events Management had written to the Parks and Recreation Department of FCTA expressing the interest to develop and manage the designated park which was allocated to it via a letter AMMC/P&R/S.500 dated 8th February, 2010 but FCTA latter discovered that the Park N0. 102 A00 located opposite the NAOWA Shopping Complex near Command Guest House Asokoro was found to be encumbered.

Al-Hassan, who took journalists round the sprawling site yesterday, said she signed the documents but that the letter of temporary allocation given to her indicated that she would be given an alternative site when government was ready to commence construction of the Maitama Transit Way.

She also maintained that all structures in the modern park were temporary which could be removed by her  within 24 hours, whenever the government was ready with the construction of the transit way project, without seeking compensation.

Al – Hassan said that the fact that the government  had allocated sites on the Transit Way Corridor to similar firms near her own park and were not given notices of demolition,  clearly showed that she was being punished over her role in the current crisis rocking the PDP.

She noted that hundreds  of her staff, most of whom are bread-winners, would remain jobless while the site, after demolition would grow weeds and become hideouts for criminals because findings by her, had shown that the FG was not prepared to start the Transit Way project for now.

The Senator noted that the fund for the development of the marked areas was not captured in the budget of the country.

Al – Hassan said, “If because of grievances that I have against the leadership of my party, which made me to join the Kawu Baraje’s group, I am now being witch-hunted and persecuted alongside innocent workers, God is watching”
