INEC unveils 2012/2016 plan

Yenagoa— Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, unveiled its strategic plan for 2012-2016 to stakeholders in Bayelsa State aimed at improving the conduct of future elections.

The package contains two documents: the strategic plan and programme of action.

Speaking at the presentation in Yenagoa, state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Edwin Nwatarali, said the plan details the commission’s vision, mission and core values, while looking at the international and national environments, as well as the national context (political, economic, social and technological, PEST) within which it operates.

According to him, the strategic plan document also detailed the analysis of the operational environment, from which five thematic aims were distilled.

This, he said include “delivery of free, fair and credible elections, improvement of voter education, training and research, efficient registration and monitoring of political parties and development of mutually beneficial relationships with relevant stakeholders, nationally and internationally as well as development of an organisation-wide effective monitoring and performance evaluation plan.”
