Foundation Cricket Club won the T20 Cricket title after defeating Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club by Four wickets  in the Final.

The Super 4 Champions batted first and scored 134 for 8 wickets in 20 overs  no thanks to returnee Bejide Jide’s 42 runs off 35 balls while the duo of Leke Oyede (38) and Opening Batsman Ademola Onikoyi added 23 runs.

Joshua Ogunlola and Godffrey Bakiwenyen both took 2 wickets while the trio of Femi Oduyebo, Captain Kunle Adegbola and Segun Olayinka all had One wicket each to make life unbearable for the batsmen of ILCC who were aiming for their second title this season after winning the Club Cricket Committee Super 4 Final.

In reply, FCC started brightly until Segun Olayinka lost his wicket to a superb catch from Femi Solebo at covers but Gbenga Akinnola (15) and Captain Kunle Adegbola (27) tried to steady the ship before losing their wickets to left-arm bowler Oluwaseun Adeboro’s  2 – 25.

Ghanaian National Team Captain Peter Ananya then produced the decisive innings in the 17th over with his 31 runs not out which included three sixes and one four while Tope Olayinka 24 runs not out played a major part of their side’s dramatic revival to win the game with eight balls to spare.

“It was nice to win our first major trophy after close to a decade but i give credit to my team and most importantly Peter Ananya’s inspired batting, but it must be said that our opponents Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club deserve a lot of credit as they are a great side” said Captain Kunle Adegbola, after the game.

Captain Endurance Ofem in his own words congratulated the new champions FCC  but went ahead to pay glowing tributes to his team mates who played 18 matches this season and lost 2.

Aside from the entertaining cricket match some important dignitaries who graced the epic final include: Mr Kwesi Sagoe (Chairman of African Cricket Association and Immediate Past President of Nigeria  Cricket Federation), Ephraim Barnaby (1st Vice-Chairman of Lagos State Cricket Association), Akin Denton (2nd Vice-Chairman of Lagos State Cricket Association), George Wiltshire (Out Going Chief Operating Officer / General Manager of Nigeria Cricket Association), Olisa Egwuatu (Board Member of Nigeria Cricket Federation), Femi Solebo (Chairman of Club Cricket Committee), Mr Ayanti Udo Udoma (1st Wicket-Keeper in Lagos, Nigeria and West Africa), Kome Agodo (Former Wicket-Keeper and Team Manager of Nigeria Cricket National Team) and Goke Idris (Technical Director of Lagos State Cricket Association).

Outstanding Cricketers such as Captain Mathias Devadayal of Lagos Asians Cricket Club won the Bowler and Man of the Series, Batsman of the Series Leke Oyede (Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club). Foundation Cricket Club also had a fair share of the awards by winning Fieldsman (Dolapo Gafar ) and Wicket-Keeper of the series Segun Olayinka.

After the end of a successful cricket season all road leads to the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval on Wednesday May 29th,2013 when players who are 40 years and above take to the oval to pay their last respect in honour of Efere Ozako who was an initiator at Federal Government College Warri  Old Students Association Cricket Club and more importantly the Legal Adviser of Club Cricket Committee.
