Yenagoa—The remains of late Major Isaac Adaka Boro, which was exhumed from the Ikoyi cemetery, Lagos last month, where he was buried 45 years ago, will be interred, May 16, at the Heroes Park in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, his final place of rest.

The late National Security Adviser, Gen Owoye Azazi, the first Ijaw son to be decorated a four-star general, was also buried at the Heroes Park, a place conceived as the final resting place for all heroes and legend of the state by Governor Seriake Dickson.

Vanguard learnt that the bones of late Boro, the hero of the Niger Delta struggle and symbol of Ijaw nation’s agitation for self-determination, was sent to the United Kingdom for DNA test after it was exhumed from the cemetery.

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Ijaw Culture and Ijaw National Affairs, Dr. Felix Tuodolo, who spoke to Vanguard in Yenagoa, said the late Boro’s interment will commemorate the 2013 edition of Major Isaac Adaka Boro anniversary celebration, marked annually by the Ijaw nation.

He said the celebration will kick off May 16 in Kaiama, with the commissioning of Boro Town Link Road, foundation stone laying ceremony of Isaac Boro Mausoleum and free medical services for the people of the area.

He said that a special command performance of Isaac Boro play, written by Simon, and music concert under the chairmanship of Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Governor Dickson as chief host, had been lined up for the event.

Tuodolo, the pioneer President of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, added that the celebration would be rounded off on May 17, with a lecture entitled Oil and Peace: Compatibility for Sustainable Growth in Nigeria, to be delivered by former US Presidential candidate and Civil Rights Leader, Rev Jesse Jackson.
