BENIN — FOLLOWING the defeat suffered by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, in last Saturday’s local government elections, a chieftain of  the party in the state, Chief Aisulimen Ighodaro, yesterday, faulted the leadership of the party over what he described as lack of strategy to win elections in the state.

He lamented that since the current chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, assumed office, the party had failed to win elections in the state, adding that rather than blame Edo State Government for their failure, “I think we should look inward and know why our members are leaving the party everyday for Action Congress of Nigeria, and to also look at the current leadership of the party because we are disappointed.”

Addressing newsmen in Benin City,  Ighodaro, said the party’s executive had other agenda, which were at variance with that of the party members, saying that “we, as a party, did not campaign as hard as we ought to have done. I was surprised to get a note that the party had concluded to boycott the elections.

“It saddens me that we are now crying foul after losing woefully, even when we knew that we were not prepared for the elections. The resort to using youths to cause mayhem and breach of the peace in the state is another plot of the party to make the state ungovernable  and prepare grounds for a state of emergency.”
