BENIN—ACTION Congress of Nigeria, ACN, lawmakers in Edo State, weekend, expressed optimism over the ability of the Committee on Public Petitions in the House of Representatives to ensure that Nigerians know the true killers of the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, late Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde.
It will be recalled that the House Committee, led by Mr. Uzo Azubuike, held a public hearing last Wednesday, where all the parties, including Governor Oshiomhole, appeared to make their submissions, following the emergence of two reports by the police and Department of the State Security, DSS, on the investigation into the May 4, 2012 killing.
However, the member representing Oredo Federal constituency of Edo State in House of Representatives, Mr. Rasaq Bello-Osagie, who spoke to newsmen shortly after he donated internet facilities to Edo State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, said the reason why the House decided to probe the reports of the investigation was to ensure that Nigerians were told the truth.
He said: “You can see that we received contradictory reports on the investigation and it is an embarrassment to the entire nation. We have had series of killings in this country that had been swept under the carpet but we have said that this is a murder that cannot be swept under the carpet.”
