2015: NNPP dissociates self from APGA alliance

BY DAPO AKINREFON

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from the political alliance purportedly reached by some 20 political parties with All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of 2015 general elections.

It would be recalled that 20 political parties adopted APGA as a uniformed platform ahead of 2015 election.

At a press briefing in Lagos, national chairman of NNPP, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam said his party was never involved in alliance with other parties or adopted APGA as a common platform to present a joint presidential candidate in 2015.

According to him, “Agbo Major, our National Secretary who attended the gathering was not representing the party, rather he attended as a personal friend of Maxi Okwu whom they have been is same political platform before. So it would be wrong to say NNPP was part of the alliance with APGA.

The party chairman however did not rule out the possibility of aligning with parties he described as sharing same philosophies with theirs, noting that such must however follow due process.

Aniebonam said “We are not in a hurry to form alliance with any party. The fact that we were not de-register by INEC shows we are moving in the right direction. But even if we are to align with parties who same ideologies with us, there is a process to follow.

Parties who are forming alliance or merging have the right to do so. But if the alliance you are forming is to pull the government down, we are not going to be party to that. If it is for the good of the country, we would be part of it.”

Also speaking on the 2014 governorship election in Anambra State, he said his party has adopted oil magnate, Ifeanyi Uba as its governorship candidate.

He stated that the adoption of Uba as the sole candidate was borne out of his clearance by Nigerian Police and the court of law that he has no case to answer in the mismanagement of oil subsidy fun funds that recently broke out.

Said he: “In view of the similarities between what Dr Uba and the NNPP stand for, the agenda of a New Nigeria shall soon manifest in our potentially great nation.

We believe that in the nearest future in Anambra politics and Nigeria as a whole, a synergy between us and Dr Uba shall be the tonic to realign Nigeria to growth, prosperity and development under the fear of God.”
