Obanikoro’s LCDA election tribunal loss rattles PDP

By Bashir Adefaka

LAGOS — THE judgment of  Appeal Court sitting in Lagos which Thursday upturned the victory of Babajide Obanikoro, son of former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, has been generating  discomfort in various Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  circles in the state.

Stalwarts of the party and elite within the Eti-Osa Local Government and Ikoyi/Obalende Local Council Development Area, directly affected by the judgment were said to be brazing up for what next to do.

According to the Chairman of PDP in Eti-Osa Local Government, Mr. Adeniyi Adams, “To use his word, the judge said, ‘The law is harsh but the law is the law.’  So, apparently they never faulted the lower court judgment that Jide Obanikoro won but, they said section 14 of the Lagos State electoral Act actually stipulated that the judgment must be done within 30 days and that it took over a year in the lower court and so that on technical ground, they had to set aside the judgment of the lower court

“We did all that we were required to do within the stipulated time.

It was the ACN lawyer that was delaying so much that even the judge at the lower court once lambasted for that attitude.  So, what they are now making us to suffer is price for the sin of the ACN and its lawyer.

“If the leaders of the ruling party who rose to the limelight through fight against June 12, 1993 electoral injustice and election annulment were the same people perpetrating same in Lagos State Local Governments electoral process, there is big problem”.
