LAGOS — No fewer than three persons were, Monday, feared dead, while others were injured, following a violent clash between social miscreants and Policemen at Ikotun area of Lagos.
But a Police source told Vanguard that only one person died.
Vanguard gathered that trouble started at about 11a.m. after a team of Policemen from Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu, stormed an Indian hemp joint around Agbole area of Ikotun to effect arrest of some suspected hoodlums.
But their attempt met a stiff resistance from the suspects, and this led to a heated argument between both parties.
In the ensuing altercation, one of the Policemen allegedly fired a shot which killed one of the suspects on the spot.
However, at about 4p.m, youths numbering over 100, said to be armed with dangerous weapons, stormed Ikotun Division to protest the death of one of their own.
Hoodlums reportedly hijacked the situation, as they attempted to burn down the station.
Eye witnesses said in the process, policemen fired some shots into the air to disperse the crowd.
Unconfirmed sources, however, said three persons were hit by stray bullets, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries as they scampered for safety.
Traders were said to have hurriedly locked up for the day, as commercial buses were deprived from plying the route by the protesters who reportedly took over the road.
