NIGERIAN youths have been urged to fully embrace the opportunity for qualitative training as their future might depend on the type of training and education they receive as young people.
Managing director of Brass LNG Limited, Vincenzo Di Lorenzo, who gave the advice during the graduation of the fourth batch of the Brass LNG Youth Skill Acquisition Programme from the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Effurun, Warri, said that sound education or training was fundamental to the overall development and future of the individual, the family, their respective community and the country at large.
Lorenzo stressed that the commitment of the Brass LNG to the special vocational training, which targets post-primary school leavers and young graduates, was in line with the company’s capacity building cum corporate social responsibility policy aimed at “empowering youths in various job areas to enable them to utilize opportunities to be thrown up in the course of construction and operation of the Brass Sea Port and Brass Airstrip, among others.â€
He expressed satisfaction with the level of success so far recorded under the company’s youth training exercise, saying this has encouraged the management of the Brass LNG to continue to start-off the beneficiaries for self-employment while some from the previous batches were now gainfully engaged in the services of the company.
Lorenzo told the graduating students as they received various certificates and award from the PTI acting principal, Dr Raymond E. Akpojivi: “We can confirm that the skill acquisition programme is already paying off, as some graduates of the 2007 (batch) have secured work at the Brass LNG project site.
We encourage them by considering their requests for employment wherever relevant job openings exist.
Participants of the skill acquisition programme are not only catered for in the course of their studies, but also given severance monetary package and ‘Starter Packs’ made up of basic tools and equipment relevant to their trades.â€
