President Bola Tinubu

A political support group, Bichi’s Ward Wide Ambassadors for Tinubu 2027, has said it will mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The group, convened by Edward Abakpa, made the commitment in Abuja during its official launch where it also named the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, as its Grand Patron.
Bichi, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, is a supporter of the Tinubu administration.
Abakpa said the decision to appoint Bichi was informed by his legislative experience and grassroots presence.
He said the group resolved to support Tinubu’s re-election because of what it described as the administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure projects and social intervention programmes.
“Our target is to mobilise 10 million votes for President Tinubu in 2027 because we believe the reforms he has started must be consolidated,” Abakpa said.
According to him, the removal of the petrol subsidy and foreign exchange reforms, despite the economic pressures associated with them, were necessary steps towards repositioning the economy.
He also cited government investments in roads, rail, power, education, agriculture and healthcare as reasons for the group’s support.
Abakpa specifically highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, saying the student loan programme could help reduce financial barriers to tertiary education if sustained and expanded.
The Presidency said NELFUND had disbursed more than N282 billion to over 1.5 million beneficiaries as of May 2026.
The convener also pointed to ongoing road and rail projects, saying improved infrastructure would enhance connectivity, facilitate the movement of goods and services and stimulate economic activity.
The administration said in May that more than 2,700 kilometres of highways and major roads were under construction, reconstruction or rehabilitation.
Abakpa also cited interventions in the power sector, including efforts to address the electricity metering gap and reform the sector.
According to the Presidency, 2.5 million meters had been supplied through the Presidential Metering Initiative during the administration’s first three years.
He said the group’s support also extended to government programmes in agriculture, housing and human capital development.
On its mobilisation strategy, Abakpa said the organisation would deploy its ward-based structure to engage voters at the grassroots ahead of the election.
“We are not limiting this mobilisation to Abuja or the major cities. We want to take the message to the wards, communities and polling units and engage Nigerians directly,” he said.
He said the group would also use its engagements to listen to Nigerians’ concerns and communicate them to relevant authorities.
Abakpa urged members to conduct their activities peacefully and within the law, stressing that the organisation would focus its campaign on government policies and its record.
“We want to mobilise Nigerians through facts, engagement and grassroots interaction. Our responsibility is to explain what the government has done, what remains to be done and why we believe continuity is important,” he said.
He added that the group would subsequently unveil its ward-level structures and programmes as it intensifies mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
