Students of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, have continued to commend the Students Welfare initiative of ‘Team DATIEMO’, following a series of interventions across academic, medical, sporting and religious activities on campus.

According to the group, more than N10 million has been committed to student-focused projects during the current academic session, with beneficiaries spanning several departments of the institution.

The initiative, championed by Ajibola Toheeb Olakunle and Orunmade Abdulrazzak Ayomide, has provided support in the areas of school fees, medical assistance, learning materials, sporting facilities and infrastructure for worship centres.

Speaking on the philosophy behind the intervention, the coordinators said student welfare remains the driving force behind every project undertaken by the team.

“Our belief is simple: when students receive the support they need, they are better positioned to excel academically, socially and personally. Every intervention we undertake is guided by the welfare of students,” the team said.

One of the latest interventions involved the Department of Music, where DATIEMO funded the purchase of musical instruments to improve practical training for students.

According to beneficiaries, the donation has significantly enhanced rehearsals and practical sessions within the department.

The group also extended medical assistance to students facing health challenges.

Among the beneficiaries was a student from the Department of Accountancy, who reportedly received N350,000 towards medical treatment after an illness threatened to disrupt his academic programme.

Similarly, a 100-level Computer Science student battling illness received N150,000 in financial support.

“No student should have to abandon his or her education because of medical challenges. We will continue to stand by students whenever help is needed,” the team stated.

Recognising the financial burden of tuition, DATIEMO also sponsored school fees for selected students across several departments, including Business Administration, Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Engineering, Public Administration and Mass Communication.

According to the organisers, about ₦700,000 was expended on school fees for students in the Mass Communication Department alone, while several other students across faculties also benefited from the intervention.

Some beneficiaries described the support as timely and life-changing.

“The payment came at a time when I had almost given up hope of continuing the semester. It was a huge relief for me and my family,” one beneficiary said.

In further support of extracurricular activities, DATIEMO sponsored football jerseys for departments including Science Laboratory Technology, Public Administration, Business Administration, Taxation, Marketing, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering.

The initiative also covered the sponsorship of OGITECH’s official home and away football kits, a development students said has boosted morale and strengthened school identity during competitions.

To reduce the cost of academic materials, the group funded the production of handouts for students in the Departments of Business Administration, Public Administration and Science Laboratory Technology.

Beyond academic and sporting interventions, DATIEMO also supported religious activities on campus through sponsorship of the construction of the institution’s mosque as well as the student parish building and related programmes.

Students across the institution have continued to express appreciation for the interventions, describing them as practical responses to pressing needs on campus.

Many students, who spoke with fellow undergraduates after lectures and through faculty communication platforms, said the consistent support has strengthened confidence that student welfare remains a priority for the organisation.

Observers within the institution noted that the initiative has distinguished itself through sustained investment in projects directly affecting students’ academic and social wellbeing.

For Ajibola Toheeb Olakunle and Orunmade Abdulrazzak Ayomide, however, the objective remains unchanged.

“Student welfare is not an option; it is a responsibility. We remain committed to supporting students and contributing to an environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed,” they said.

With interventions ranging from educational support and healthcare to sports development and religious infrastructure, DATIEMO’s student welfare initiative continues to attract attention across the OGITECH community as beneficiaries acknowledge the impact of the programme on campus life.
