The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development FMH&UD, has partnered with the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS), to drive discussions on land reforms and improve access to land as a critical step towards delivering affordable and low-cost housing across Nigeria and Africa.

The high-level Land Administration Session, scheduled to hold during the 20th Anniversary Edition of the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS @20 – Legacy Edition), from July 13 to 18, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, will bring together key stakeholders to explore practical solutions for expanding access to land and accelerating affordable housing delivery.

The session is expected to attract State Commissioners for Lands, Surveyors-General, Directors of Lands, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experts, policymakers, development partners, investors, and housing professionals to deliberate on reforms aimed at making land administration more transparent, efficient, and investment-friendly.

As part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to strengthening land governance, discussions will focus on land digitisation, automation of land administration processes, land registration reforms, property titling, geospatial technologies, cadastral management, and innovative strategies for improving access to land, particularly for low-income and informal workers.

The initiative aligns with the theme of AIHS 2026, “Housing Solutions for Low Income and Informal Workers in Africa,” underscoring the importance of land reforms in addressing Africa’s growing housing deficit and promoting inclusive urban development.

The session is also expected to deepen collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, state governments, development finance institutions, mortgage institutions, private sector developers, and international partners in advancing policies and investments that support sustainable housing development.

Participants will showcase ongoing land administration initiatives, exchange best practices, and engage potential technical and financing partners to develop bankable housing projects capable of attracting local and international investment.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Africa International Housing Show, Festus Adebayo, said the session would provide a unique platform for governments and industry stakeholders to strengthen collaboration on land reforms and unlock greater access to land for housing development.

According to him, efficient and transparent land administration remains one of the most important pillars for achieving affordable housing and creating sustainable cities across Africa.

Now in its 20th edition, the Africa International Housing Show has grown into Africa’s largest housing and construction platform, attracting participants from more than 25 countries, including vice presidents, ministers, governors, policymakers, investors, developers, development finance institutions, manufacturers, researchers, and housing professionals committed to shaping the future of housing on the continent.
