GUSAU — The Zamfara State Government has said funds received under the World Bank-supported State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) Programme are being invested in projects and reforms aimed at improving the business environment, strengthening institutions and promoting economic development.
The assurance was given on Tuesday by Governor Dauda Lawal, who was represented by Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni, during the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) National Town Hall and State Engagement Tour in Gusau.
The event was part of a nationwide stakeholder engagement initiative designed to assess the implementation of business-enabling reforms and encourage measures that improve the ease of doing business across the country.
Speaking at the forum, the deputy governor said the state government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses through investments in infrastructure and institutional reforms.
According to him, the administration recognises the importance of the private sector in driving economic growth, job creation and sustainable development.
He noted that the government has prioritised projects and initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of investors, entrepreneurs and business operators in the state.
“The SABER Programme seeks to strengthen the implementation of business-enabling reforms across participating states. Zamfara State has commenced comprehensive system-strengthening measures within its agencies to improve the ease of doing business,” he said.
Mummuni added that funds accessed under the programme are being utilised for projects intended to support growth and economic development.
As part of the reforms, he disclosed that the state has established four Small Claims Courts in Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Gummi and Talata Mafara to facilitate the speedy resolution of commercial disputes.
According to him, the courts are expected to provide businesses with faster access to justice and contribute to a more predictable business environment.
Speaking at the event, leader of the PEBEC North-West engagement team, Jafar Shu’aibu, stressed the importance of creating a conducive investment climate and improving investor experiences.
He said efficient regulatory systems and business-friendly policies are essential for attracting investment and stimulating economic activities.
Shu’aibu commended Zamfara State’s participation in the reform programme and encouraged continued collaboration among government institutions, the private sector and development partners.
Also speaking, Zamfara State PEBEC Focal Person and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Sani Bukkuyum, urged stakeholders to contribute ideas and recommendations that could strengthen ongoing reforms.
He emphasised the importance of stakeholder engagement in achieving the objectives of the SABER Programme and promoting sustainable economic development.
Bukkuyum also called for stronger collaboration between government, businesses, civil society organisations and development partners to improve service delivery and support economic growth.
The town hall meeting attracted government officials, private sector representatives, development partners and civil society groups as part of efforts to deepen business reforms and enhance the investment climate in Zamfara State.
