More than 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday gathered at the Okpurughre family compound in Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area, to declare support for Mrs. Okpurughre Ogheneovo’s aspiration to represent Ethiope West Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly in 2027.

The gathering, held at short notice, attracted party members, women and youth supporters from across the constituency, who expressed their backing for Ogheneovo ahead of the party’s primary election.

Speaking on behalf of the supporters, women and youth leaders described Ogheneovo as a qualified aspirant capable of representing the constituency and advancing its interests at the state legislature.

They cited her grassroots engagement and involvement in community affairs as reasons for their endorsement, pledging to support her aspiration throughout the political process.

Addressing the gathering, Ogheneovo thanked party members and supporters for their turnout and confidence in her leadership.

She said she was prepared to offer effective representation for the constituency and contribute to its development if given the opportunity.

“Besides being the only woman in the race, I know I’m very qualified and I tick all the right boxes. I have the capacity, I have the grassroots support, and I understand the needs of our people,” she said.

The aspirant also reaffirmed her commitment to the APC, stating that she and her supporters would remain loyal to the party regardless of the outcome of the primary election.

She expressed confidence that her candidature would strengthen the party’s prospects in the constituency.

Also speaking, APC chieftain and stakeholder, Mr. Idi Presley, described Ogheneovo’s aspiration as timely and deserving of consideration by the party.

According to him, her emergence as the party’s candidate would enhance the APC’s chances in the 2027 House of Assembly election for Ethiope West Constituency II.

The event ended with party members reiterating their support for Ogheneovo and calling for a transparent and inclusive primary process ahead of the 2027 elections.
