…Calls for justice, reconciliation, and stronger internal democracy

The Kwara Progressive Coalition, a pro-democracy movement committed to the development of All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, has said that the recent position of the APC Elders Caucus on the governorship primary that produced the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections should be carefully considered by relevant stakeholders.

In a statement issued on Monday, the group said the intervention of party elders is important due to their longstanding contributions to political development and party organisation in the state.

It noted that the elders’ views reflect concerns that have been expressed in different quarters of the party and should be examined in the interest of unity and progress.

The coalition said there have been varying opinions among party members across the three senatorial districts regarding the conduct and outcome of the governorship primary.

According to the statement, some party stakeholders have expressed concerns about inclusiveness and the level of consultation in the process, which they believe are important to party cohesion.

The group stressed that the matter goes beyond individual interests or political alignments, describing it as an issue related to strengthening internal party processes and maintaining unity.

It recalled that the APC was founded on principles such as participation, fairness, and internal democracy, and urged that these values be sustained through continuous engagement and dialogue.

The coalition noted that when concerns arise within a political party, they are best addressed through consultation, reconciliation, and constructive engagement among stakeholders.

It warned that unresolved disagreements within political organisations can affect cohesion if not properly managed, and called for efforts to encourage dialogue among members.

The group said there are ongoing discussions among party members at different levels, including grassroots supporters and stakeholders, reflecting differing perspectives on party matters.

It emphasised that these members remain important to the party’s structure and electoral success and should continue to be engaged.

The coalition therefore urged the leadership of All Progressives Congress at the national level to consider the concerns raised by stakeholders and party elders in a manner that promotes unity and stability.

It also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a leading figure in the party, to support ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening cohesion and trust within the party structure.

According to the statement, political success is sustained not only through electoral outcomes but also through inclusive processes and continued engagement of party members.

The coalition concluded by urging all stakeholders to prioritise dialogue and cooperation in addressing concerns, with a view to strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
