ASABA — Governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State, Emmanuel Unuafe, has called for greater investment in public institutions and improved welfare for public servants, saying strong institutions are essential for effective governance and sustainable development.

Unuafe made the call following a recent visit to the High Court in Asaba, where he processed documents related to his governorship aspiration.

Reflecting on the experience, he said it highlighted the challenges confronting public institutions and workers across the state, noting that the judiciary offers a glimpse into the realities faced by many public sector employees.

“The experience reinforced the need for continued investment in our public institutions and in the people who work tirelessly to keep them functioning,” he said.

According to him, effective governance depends on strong institutions, adequate infrastructure and a motivated workforce capable of delivering quality services to citizens.

The ADC governorship hopeful also stressed the importance of reliable electricity supply in promoting economic growth and enhancing public service delivery. He referenced the 2023 Electricity Act, which empowers states to play a more active role in power generation and distribution.

He urged state governments to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the law to expand electricity access for businesses, public institutions and communities.

Unuafe further emphasised the need for governance that delivers measurable improvements in the lives of citizens, particularly at the grassroots level.

He noted that public trust in government is strengthened when people experience tangible gains in infrastructure, service delivery and economic opportunities.

“If given the opportunity to serve, my focus will be on strengthening institutions, supporting workers, expanding economic opportunities, and ensuring that government policies translate into meaningful benefits for the people,” he stated.

The governorship aspirant said Delta State possesses abundant human and natural resources and can become a model of sustainable development through effective leadership, strategic planning and accountable governance.

He called on leaders at all levels to pursue policies that promote productivity, transparency and inclusive growth, stressing that lasting development depends on the efficient utilisation of available resources for the benefit of citizens.

“The people deserve a government that works efficiently, delivers results and creates an environment where individuals and businesses can thrive,” he added.
