ILORIN — Youth groups from the Ilorin Emirate have expressed support for the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, as a potential governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.
The endorsement was announced at a joint press conference organised by the Ilorin Emirate Dynamic Youth Initiative and the Ilorin Emirate Youth Progressive for Communities on Monday in Ilorin.
Speaking on behalf of the groups, Abdulwaheed Olamilekan said they believe it is time for Kwara North Senatorial District to produce the state’s governor, citing considerations of equity, fairness and inclusive governance.
According to the groups, their position is informed by the principles of balanced representation and justice.
They noted that while Kwara Central and Kwara South have produced governors since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Kwara North has yet to occupy the office.
The groups described support for a candidate from Kwara North as a step toward strengthening unity and fostering a greater sense of inclusion among communities across the state.
They also said the endorsement reflects appreciation for the district’s political support for other parts of the state over the years.
Highlighting Danladi’s background as an engineer, former lecturer and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the groups said his experience and leadership qualities position him to contribute to youth development and governance.
They urged APC leaders, stakeholders and residents of the state to consider supporting Kwara North’s aspiration to produce the next governor in 2027.
According to the groups, ensuring that all sections of the state have a sense of belonging would help promote social cohesion, peace and sustainable development.
