2027: Kano Central Youths endorse Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura for APC Senate ticket

Youths from across the 15 local government areas of Kano Central Senatorial District have expressed strong support for Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, popularly known as AA Zaura, as their preferred candidate for the All Progressives Congress senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The position was made known during a gathering attended by youths from various parts of the district, where participants highlighted the need for the party to uphold internal democracy and give consideration to candidates with longstanding ties to the party’s grassroots structures.

Speakers at the event described Zaura as a committed party member who has remained active within the APC in Kano since joining the party in 2020.

According to participants, Zaura has played a visible role in party mobilisation, reconciliation efforts, and support-building activities in the state, particularly in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.

Some attendees also referenced his decision to step back from the governorship race in support of broader party interests, describing it as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment.

While expressing their preference for Zaura, the youths also acknowledged former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, describing him as a respected political leader and elder statesman.

They called for a transparent and inclusive candidate selection process, urging the party leadership to consider the views of members at the grassroots.

“We believe in the party’s democratic principles and want a process that reflects the wishes of members across Kano Central,” one participant said.

The group said it would formally communicate its position to the APC leadership in Kano and at the national level as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC in Kano had yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

The development underscores growing political engagement among young party members as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections.
