In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with the Federal Government commencing arrangements to evacuate Nigerians willing to return home from South Africa following renewed anti-foreigner protests and rising tensions in parts of that country.

Another headline features the Senate making a dramatic U-turn on its controversial amendment barring first-time senators from contesting for presiding offices, reopening the race for Senate President and Deputy Senate President in the 11th National Assembly.

Vanguard also reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan fuelled fresh speculation about a possible return to presidential politics after telling a large crowd of supporters in Abuja that he would ‘consult widely’ over mounting calls for him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Moving to the next paper, The Guardian leads with the Obidient Movement dismissing the activities and announcement by certain individuals and groups attempting to operate under names and structure deliberately designed to create confusion around its identity and leadership.

Next paper, The Punch leads with the All Progressives Congress (APC) facing growing internal tensions across several states as its consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections continues to generate resistance, competing interests, and political realignments within the party structure.

Lastly, The Nation leads with the APC receiving the nomination and expression of interest forms of President Tinubu submitted by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
