A governorship aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Benue State, Peter Adejoh, has said the state deserves better leadership and development after over 50 years of its creation.

Adejoh stated this shortly after picking his expression of interest and nomination forms at the ADC national headquarters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The governorship hopeful said his ambition was driven by the need to reposition the state economically and politically, insisting that Benue has not achieved its full potential despite its abundant human and natural resources.

According to him, the “journey to rescue Benue” has begun, adding that his administration would focus on transparency, accountability, economic growth and inclusive governance if elected.

“Benue is over 50 years old, and looking at the economic indices, the state is not doing fantastically well. That is what I am coming to change,” he said.

Adejoh noted that the state has remained backward despite being widely regarded as the food basket of the nation.

He stressed that Benue has the capacity to become economically self-reliant through proper investment in agriculture, mineral resources and internally generated revenue.

The ADC aspirant also pledged to strengthen local government autonomy, tackle insecurity and ensure prompt payment of salaries across the state.

According to him, insecurity, underdevelopment and poverty in many communities are linked to the weakening of local government administration over the years.

He further promised to run an inclusive government that would accommodate all ethnic groups and senatorial districts in the state.

“I’m going to be a governor for Benue State. I’m not going to be an Idoma governor, Tiv governor, Igede governor or Etulo governor,” he stated.

“There will be even distribution of wealth across the three senatorial districts of Benue State.”

Adejoh also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to remain truly independent ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that Nigeria does not need a one-party state.

Supporters who accompanied him to the ADC headquarters expressed optimism about his candidacy, describing him as a credible alternative capable of transforming Benue State.
