The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) and the Christian community will on May 5, 2026, celebrate National Bible Day to honour the Holy Scriptures and encourage Nigerians to reflect on and embrace biblical values.

In a statement signed by Benjamin Mordi, Manager of Media and Public Relations of BSN, the society said the annual observance provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reaffirm their commitment to biblical principles and experience what it described as the life-changing power of God’s Word.

Ahead of the celebration, the General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, described the Bible as “the compass to abundant life and prosperity,” warning that “the neglect of it is the neglect of peace.”

He expressed joy that the Bible Society is privileged to be part of organisations working to make the Bible accessible and affordable to Nigerians. He also cited the biblical injunction that “righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people,” urging Christians to use the day to study, meditate on, and live by scriptural teachings.

National Bible Day is observed annually across churches, schools, and Christian organisations in Nigeria, with emphasis on reading, reflection, and practical application of the Scriptures in daily life.

The Bible Society of Nigeria is a non-profit interdenominational organisation engaged in translating, publishing, and distributing the Holy Bible, as well as raising funds to support Scripture engagement. The organisation has produced the full Bible in 27 Nigerian languages, with ongoing translation or revision projects in nine other languages. It is estimated that completing a single Bible translation project takes at least eight years and costs about ₦150 million.

The BSN has invited Nigerians to participate actively in the 2026 National Bible Day celebration by studying, reflecting on, and living according to biblical teachings.
