A Nigerian businessman and politician, Chief Emeka Agba, has expressed deep sadness over the heightened tensions caused by insecurity in the country and the unsettling negligence by the concerned authorities.
Chief Agba, who is a presidential hopeful in the upcoming general elections and a strong voice on national issues, chided the ruling party’s limited impact on tackling insecurity.
He stressed that many lives are lost every day at the hands of bandits, kidnappers, and herdsmen.
Reacting to the tragic incident on Saturday, April 21, 2026, along the Ore-Benin Highway, involving a commuter minibus owned by a prominent transport company in Nigeria that claimed one life, with some passengers allegedly missing, Chief Agba challenged the federal government to prioritize human life and stop playing politics with what should be considered more important.
Lamenting the government’s poor handling of insecurity, he said today’s incident was avoidable if adequate security measures were in place. He noted that it paints a clear picture of how many Nigerians face regular danger from incessant kidnappings and killings by bandits and militias.
“Today, another painful tragedy has occurred along the Ore-Benin Expressway. A commercial bus traveling to the East was attacked by bandits, and the driver was killed on the spot. It is also alleged that some occupants of the vehicle were taken into the bush by unknown gunmen.
“This type of scenario creates panic and chaos among the citizenry, questioning the government’s proactiveness in defending the masses that voted them into power,” he said.
Chief Agba queried the rationale behind capturing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating some bandits among the victims they tortured.
He said: “In any country that values human life, justice must come first, not rehabilitation. Those who take innocent lives must face the full weight of the law.”
Chief Agba berated politicians for recycling the same pattern of leadership, where the same clique shuffles from one party to another, making the seat of government in Abuja a retirement haven for themselves.
“I call on every well-meaning Nigerian to join me and rebuild the country. Let us chart a new path for our nation and not be part of a transactional political system.
“To the youth of Nigeria, I charge you to be very vigilant in the choices you make. It is time to rise. It is time to take responsibility. It is time to demand a new Nigeria,” he stated.
