McEnies Global Communications has announced its active role in the Weather and Climate Information Services for Resilience (WISER) Health project, a multi-agency initiative led by the UK Met Office and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in partnership with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Rockefeller Foundation.

The project is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s health sector by integrating weather and climate forecasts into responses to climate-sensitive health challenges.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), which calls for an integrated climate, health, and environmental early warning system across at least 18 states by 2030. McEnies is working closely with NiMet, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) to deliver this vision.

Dr. Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, CEO of McEnies Global Communications, emphasized the importance of making meteorological data usable for health decision-makers. “Climate information holds untapped potential to transform health outcomes. Our work with WISER Health is about making this data truly usable for health agencies, ensuring timely, equitable, and locally relevant responses,” she said.

Through community surveys and workshops across rural, urban, coastal, and informal communities, McEnies is ensuring that early warning services are inclusive and people-led. The project also benefits from collaboration with global partners including the World Bank and the World Health Organization.

The WISER Health project builds on McEnies’ earlier success in 2023, when the company partnered with the UK Met Office and FCDO to develop communication strategies that mitigated flooding risks in vulnerable Nigerian communities. That effort improved public awareness and coordination among disaster management agencies.

Leveraging those insights, McEnies is now expanding its focus to integrate climate information with health planning, tackling emerging threats such as heat stress and vector-borne diseases. The company says it remains committed to innovative communication solutions that foster resilience and sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.
