Nigerian newspapers

In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with Nigerian households and businesses getting set to face tougher conditions as retail prices of cooking gas, automotive gas oil (diesel), and petrol surge sharply due to the Middle East crisis.

Another headline features recent defectors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and some governors asserting dominance over party affairs in their states, with their preferred candidates clinching state chairmanship positions at the nationwide congresses.

Vanguard also reports that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has found initial evidence of medical negligence and professional misconduct in the death of Master Nkanu Adichie-Esege, the 21-month-old son of acclaimed author Chimamanda Adichie.

Moving to the next paper, The Guardian’s lead headline states that 10 years after its launch, the national railway modernisation project remains undermined by poor design, weak execution and vandalism, despite $3.38 billion in foreign debt and little progress toward affordable, efficient inter-state rail travel.

Next paper, The Punch’s top headline states that value-added tax collections climbed to N1.08tn in January following the introduction of a revised revenue-sharing formula that changed how funds are allocated among the federal, state and local governments.

Lastly, The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing  Doris Anite-Uzoka.
