The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has received a petition over alleged human rights violations.

The petition, dated February 26, 2026, was submitted at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja by a legal practitioner on behalf of Engr. Nwaji Ifeanyi Kenneth. It called for the Commission’s urgent intervention over alleged violations of the complainant’s fundamental rights.

According to the document, concerns were raised over alleged unlawful detention, harassment, and possible abuse of authority in the handling of the matter. The complainant was said to have honoured an invitation in Abuja earlier in the month, after which questions reportedly emerged regarding the circumstances of his detention and treatment.

In the petition, the complainant urged the NHRC to immediately investigate his situation, ascertain his status and welfare, and examine the roles of individuals connected to the events, recommending appropriate legal or disciplinary measures where necessary.

The petitioner maintained that the case goes beyond a private dispute, raising broader concerns about due process, constitutional protections, and public confidence in public institutions.
