As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, a member of the Republican National Committee, Osunde Douglas Eseosa, Esq, has called on Nigerians to rise and defend their democratic rights.
Writing from the United States, Eseosa urged citizens not to allow “one person’s ambition to overshadow the will of the masses,” stressing that leadership must reflect the collective interest of the people rather than personal political pursuits.
According to him, Nigerians must be vigilant and discerning, noting that individuals often held in high regard may not always uphold integrity in public service.
“Even those we look up to are sometimes just as corrupt,” he stated, urging citizens to prioritise accountability over loyalty to political figures.
Eseosa emphasised the need for Nigerians to stand firm against corruption, insisting that no individual who leads through corrupt practices should be respected as a legitimate leader.
He further called for a government that would bring to justice all those who have looted the nation’s resources, whether directly or indirectly, adding that there should be no sacred cows in the fight against corruption.
“All involved should be punished, with no exceptions,” he said.
He maintained that the wealth of the nation belongs to its people and not to a privileged few who occupy positions of authority.
Commenting on political mobilisation strategies, Eseosa criticised the use of financial inducements to influence individuals, arguing that such funds could be redirected towards meaningful national development.
“The money being used to mobilise certain individuals and buy their conscience is enough to get the job done if it were directed towards achieving the public good,” he added.
As conversations about 2027 continue to intensify, his remarks add to the growing discourse on accountability, transparency, and citizen participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
