Nigerian newspapers review: [Impeachment] APC, Rivers Assembly at ‘war’ over Fubara, deputy

In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with the crisis in Rivers State escalating as the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed with the House of Assembly over impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over alleged misconduct and misappropriation of funds.

Vanguard also reports that at least eight people were killed in a supremacy battle between rival cult groups in parts of Benue State, including Makurdi and Jato Aka in Kwande Local Government Area (LGA), over territorial control.

Moving to the next Newspaper, The Guardian leads with Rivers State being thrown into deeper political turmoil as legislators escalated impeachment efforts and froze key financial decisions, while Governor Fubara left the country to formally update President Bola Tinubu on the intensifying power struggle.

Next paper, The Punch reports that the APC has stepped up its electronic membership registration drive in Benue, Ekiti and Enugu states to bolster its grassroots base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Finally, The Nation reports that the Federal Government has clarified that low-income earners will pay zero tax under the new tax regime that took effect on January 1.
