The President General of the Tiv indigenous socio-cultural organization, Mdzough U Tiv (MUT) worldwide, Chief Iorbee Ihagh has described culture as a critical driver of socio-economic development, stressing that it serves as a foundation for identity, social cohesion and innovation.
Chief Ihagh noted that culture plays a significant role in stimulating economic growth, particularly through creative industries and tourism, while also shaping work ethics and influencing market participation.
Chief Ihagh made the assertion while presenting a branded car to the newly crowned Kumashe U Tiv Worldwide, Queen Doose Gbor, who emerged victorious during the recent Tiv Day Celebration in Gboko.
According to him, “societies that harness their cultural assets are better positioned to achieve sustainable development. Culture helps shape behaviours, promotes social inclusion and provides unique resources that could be leveraged for national development.”
Chief Ihagh, who also serves as Chairman of the three major socio-cultural organizations in Benue State, congratulated Queen Doose Gbor on her emergence and urged her to uphold the values and image of the Tiv nation.
“Your role as Kumashe U Tiv comes with immense responsibility. You must remain resolute, act as a good ambassador, and promote the rich cultural heritage of our people,” Chief Ihagh said.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Tor Tiv HRM Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, members of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), and the Sub-Committee on Tiv Language and Culture, led by Iyorwuese Ligom, for their efforts in ensuring the success of the summit.
Chief Ihagh added, “Queen Doose Gbor must represent the true image of the Tiv Nation, as her character will be closely observed.”
Former President General of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Chief Justice A.B. Utsaha (rtd), and other dignitaries, including Mr. Stephen Akpehe, Treasurer of MUT and President of Mbadede Development Association, also congratulated the new Kumashe and encouraged her to carry out her duties with dignity.
In a notable part of the event, the Mdzough U Tiv lauded the United States for its military intervention in Nigeria, describing it as a timely commencement of airstrikes against bandits. The organization called for an expansion of these operations to the North-East, North-Central, and other affected regions of Nigeria.
During the ceremony, the Central Planning Committee awarded monetary prizes to the outgoing Kumashe and runners-up. N1million was given to the outgoing Kumashe, N200,000 to the first runner-up, and N150,000 to the second runner-up.
