The Knights of St. John International (KSJI) has recorded a defining moment in its national leadership evolution with the election of Major-General Joachim Amamgbo as Supreme Subordinate President.

The emergence made it the first time a member of the Lagos Grand Commandery has attained the office immediately after serving as Grand President.

In a statement signed by Sir Samuel Dennis, a k a Sir D of Commandery 838 St Peter Claver Ajao, Amamgbo emerged after a rigorous electoral process that was concluded in the early hours of Sunday morning, November 30, 2025.

Elected alongside with Major General Amamgbo into the newly elected Supreme Subordinate Board includes: Major-Gen. Joachim Chuks Amamgbo, SSP, Bona Ugwuja – First Vice SSP, Brig-Gen. Chijioke Ilechukwu – Second Vice SSP, Brig-Gen. Chuks Onua – Supreme Subordinate Secretary, Brig-Gen. Cletus Ntong – Supreme Subordinate Treasurer and Brig-Gen. David Polycarp – Supreme Subordinate 1st Trustee and Brig. Peter Osamgbi – Supreme Subordinate 2nd Trustee.

Under Amamgbo’s stewardship, the newly elected Supreme Subordinate Board brings together seasoned officers drawn from diverse commanderies, reinforcing the Order’s national cohesion and strategic depth.

The convention’s proceedings – from spiritual renewal and military excellence to strategic business deliberations-reflected the institution’s maturity and disciplined governance culture.

Major-General Joachim Chuks Amamgbo’s emergence as Supreme Subordinate President at this defining moment in the life of the Order signals more than a leadership transition; it announces a new national horizon for KSJI Nigeria.

His tenure in his words, “shall be driven by a unifying vision that consolidates KSJI’s spiritual mission, institutional discipline, and national relevance into a single, coherent force for Catholic witness and civic leadership.”

By leveraging the unprecedented bridge between Lagos – Nigeria’s nerve centre of commerce and influence – and the broader national commandery structure, his administration is set to reposition KSJI as a visible moral compass in the public square: disciplined in structure, unwavering in faith, and formidable in service.

This vision calls for the deliberate transformation of KSJI into Nigeria’s most trusted Catholic fraternal institution, admired not only for tradition, but for strategic impact.
Under his command, KSJI Nigeria will evolve into a modern, performance-driven organisation rooted in faith and excellence.

The diversity and calibre of the newly constituted Supreme Subordinate Board offers an extraordinary platform to institutionalize robust governance systems, deepen national cohesion, and professionalise operations across all commanderies.

Strategic focus must be placed on leadership development, youth engagement, membership growth, financial sustainability, and a reinvigorated culture of service – one that aligns military precision with Christian compassion.

Through structured training, national programmes, and inter-commandery collaboration, KSJI can become a national school of Catholic leadership, producing disciplined men and women equipped for service in Church, society, and nation.

Ultimately, the Amamgbo era will be remembered as the season in which KSJI Nigeria stepped confidently into its historic destiny: a spiritually anchored, nationally coordinated, globally respected Catholic Order.

By deepening its spiritual life, strengthening its institutional framework, and expanding its social footprint, the Order will not only preserve its heritage, but multiply its relevance in a rapidly changing Nigeria.

This is the vision of a KSJI that speaks with one voice, marches with one purpose, and serves with one heart – a brotherhood renewed, a mission elevated, and a future secured.
