The Chief Executive Officer of Fiki Marine, a subsidiary of Fiki Bal International , Mr. Taofiki Balogun, has berated the rate at which Chinese are coming to the Nigerian waters to fish at the expense of Nigerians, urging Nigerian government to explore its potential to the fullest for the benefit of the economy and its citizenry.
He said, “The Chinese are coming to fish in the Nigerian sea and it’s unfortunate that they are coming all the way from China to catch our fish. When you get out into the ocean from the bar-beach area about six miles down, the water becomes navy blue with big shark inside.
“The fish catching boat are common in South Africa, I am trying to introduce it to Nigeria, and I have just three fishing boats, we also have passenger boats that is taken to the beach, all our boats are well equipped, it has all the navigation aids, the VHF radio, compass and all other safety measures you can think of. We also ensure that all our boats have more than one engine incase one break down.”
He said customers who rented the fishing boats are provided with the required personnel and equipment for the fish catching tour, saying that the capacity of passenger on the dual station-equipped fishing boat is eight passengers.
Speaking with journalists recently in Lagos, he disclosed that his company has three fishing boats in stock which are rented out for those who are interested in catching fish, adding that the boat has a device (High Definition System) underneath with a monitor that made it possible to see the down of the sea clearly as against the orthodox method of throwing net into the water to catch fish.
