God kept me going before fame – Tems

God kept me going before fame – Tems

By Ayo Onikoyi

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Tems has opened up about the mindset and faith that sustained her long before global fame, during a mini interactive session with fans on X (formerly Twitter).

When a fan asked what kept her going on the days she almost gave up, the singer credited her resilience to faith and intentional self-belief.

“Oh baby, honestly I leaned on God a lot. And I focused on serving. I hypnotised myself into thinking positively about me. Most negative thoughts are lies. They are just easier to believe. There is nothing you cannot do. Just don’t focus on other people because who will focus on you?” she wrote.

Another fan asked what career path she might have chosen if music didn’t work out. Tems revealed she may have ended up in a more conventional profession.

“I might have been an accountant or a mathematics teacher,” she said.

Reflecting on one of the biggest lessons she has learned in life, Tems replied simply and profoundly:

“Dying to self.”

Tems also shared the one thing she loves most about Wizkid, her frequent collaborator and industry friend.

“His heart, his work ethic,” she responded.

The mini Q&A session has since generated reactions from fans who continue to draw inspiration from her honesty, humility, and faith-driven journey.
