Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), has expressed support for Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum’s declaration of a statewide day of fasting and prayer, aimed at strengthening efforts against terrorism.
Governor Zulum, in early November 2025, called on residents across religious lines to observe a day of spiritual intercession, emphasizing that the security of Borno requires both operational strategies and community engagement.
In response, Buratai described the initiative as a positive approach that complements comprehensive security management. He noted that Zulum’s call reflects the importance of uniting citizens and fostering both moral and spiritual resolve alongside conventional security measures.
The former Army Chief commended the Governor for encouraging citizens to come together in support of peace and stability, describing it as leadership that acknowledges the broader dimensions of national security.
He further encouraged the Federal Government, security agencies, and Nigerians to adopt a multifaceted approach to counter-insurgency, combining operational efforts with community-driven initiatives, including spiritual engagement.
Buratai stressed that mobilizing all available resources—material, strategic, moral, and spiritual—is essential to securing lasting peace and promoting recovery and development in the Northeast and across the country.
