As reactions continue to pour over the death of late football legend, Rashidi Yekini, President-General of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club Dr. Rafiu Ladipo and his former team-mate, Raymond King  have said that the late Super Eagles star died because he was  poorly treated by his country.

The duo who were at the M.K.O Abiola stadium, Abeokuta last Saturday to watch the Falconets demolish their DR Congo counterparts, told Saturday Vanguard Sports  that the late football legend was abandoned and  was frustrated due to neglect from sports administrators.

According to Dr. Ladipo, “It is a pity that we don’t celebrate our heroes when they are alive except when they have gone. We should not forget so soon what he did for this country in 1994, both at the Nations Cup and World Cup.  I don’t know of any player who we can compare Yekini with when it comes to goal scoring for Nigeria.

The government and the sports ministry refused to appreciate him when he  needed them most but he was always there for us when we needed him.,”he stressed.

On his part, his former Gateway trainer, King, who could not hold back tears said, “he gave his all to this country but nobody ever noticed him. is that how we celebrate our heroes.”
