The Nigeria National League (NNL) has concluded its 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Tuesday, in Kaduna State. The meeting, attended by key stakeholders in Nigerian football, produced several landmark resolutions that will shape the future of the league.

In its opening remarks, the AGM expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the people of Kaduna State for successfully hosting the gathering. Delegates also commended the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the NFF Board for their leadership and continued support, describing the NNL as “the most important league in Nigeria.”

One of the major outcomes was the approval of Saturday, November 8, 2025, as the official kick-off date for the 2025/2026 season, beginning with a star match. The rest of the opening fixtures are scheduled for November 14–16 at various venues across the country. The AGM also endorsed an abridged format featuring four conferences—A, B, C, and D—for the upcoming season.

Significantly, the Super 8 competition was abolished as the final stage for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Instead, the top club from each conference will secure automatic promotion. To determine the overall NNL champion, a Super 4 tournament will be introduced at the end of the season. Any club that fails to participate in the Super 4 will forfeit its promotion status, with the runner-up from that conference taking its place.

In a move to raise standards, the AGM emphasized that only stadiums meeting NNL requirements will be approved for league matches. Clubs must also provide proof of insurance coverage for players and officials as part of registration.

The meeting approved and adopted the league’s financial report, the 2024/2025 audited accounts, and the budget for the 2025/2026 season. It was also resolved that only Prostar/NNL-branded match balls will be used during matches, with sanctions for any home team that fails to comply.

Delegates acknowledged ongoing sponsorship efforts by the league’s board and expressed optimism that they will soon yield results. A vote of explicit confidence was passed on the NNL Board, led by George Aluo, in recognition of its achievements and commitment to improving the league’s standards.

The communiqué was signed by the drafting committee comprising Mr. Michael Chukwuemeka (Chairman), Mallam Ahmed Egye (Member), and Mr. Nicholas Akujobi (Secretary).
