PORT HARCOURT— SPEAKER, House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has assured that the House will implement its committee’s report on the fuel subsidy probe.
Tambuwal, who spoke in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while on tour of projects of the state government with Governor Chibuike Amaechi, appealed for patience on the part of Nigerians.
He said the House was determined to rid the sector of corruption.
Tambuwal said: “We have started delibrations on the report of the committee that reviewed the subsidy regime except for some areas, where some companies had not been given adequate opportunity to be heard, otherwise the report has been received.”
The Speaker hailed the achievements of Governor Amaechi, describing him as a role model for public officers in the country.
“You could see clearly that the government is at work and what is being done is not mere work but quality work. I believe that the governor deserves commendation by justifying the resources Rivers State Government is receiving. I have been here several times, and I am impressed with what I have seen.
“Clearly, this is a challenge to other governors and indeed to all of us who are in public service. Public service is a call to duty, transparency, accountability and selflessness. It is not all about luxury or to be in cosy environment in your office or home. To me, it is a challenge for every public officer to go out and work for the people that put them in office and I believe the governor is doing that,” he added.
