ABUJA — The 2025 edition of the Nduka Obaigbena National Secondary Schools Essay Competition, NOSSEC, is set to hold its preliminaries from today to July 14, with a grand prize-giving ceremony slated for Government College Ughelli, Delta State.
According to a statement by Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights, CASER; Frank Tietie, Executive Director, CASER; and Michael Akoreh, Chairman, Local Organising Committee for NOSSEC 2025, “The annual competition, organised by CASER is designed to inspire and nurture strong writing skills among secondary school students across Nigeria.
“It encourages excellence in creative writing, critical thinking, and fact-based expression, pillars of responsible journalism.
“The initiative also seeks to counteract the growing threat of misinformation, online abuse, and the decline of ethical communication, by promoting integrity, clarity, and accuracy in public discourse.
Held in honour of Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of the ThisDay/ARISE Media Group, whose birthday falls on July 14, the competition celebrates his contributions to journalism and media development across Africa.”
