A former Presidential Candidate, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has described former Governor of Kwara State, Cornelius Adebayo, as an exceptional statesman.
Adebayo passed on on June 25, 2025.
While mourning him, Olawepo-Hashim, in a statement, said he was a symbol of principled leadership in Nigeria.
The statement reads: “Chief Adebayo was not only a man of impeccable integrity, but also an intellectual and political pathfinder whose life and career inspired many of us.
“I recall with deep personal reflection that my very first political engagement was in support of his Governorship bid in 1983.
“That formative experience ignited inr me a lifelong commitment to politics founded on values, service, and courage. Beyond his contributions to Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole, Chief Adebayo played a critical role in shaping the political direction and leadership consciousness of the North Central zone and the Middle Belt.
“He understood the unique identity, challenges, and potential of our region and worked tirelessly to chart a course for its political relevance and development within the broader Nigerian federation.ds
“We had a leader who never wavered in his commitment to justice, democracy, and national unity. His life was a reminder that politics can indeed be grounded in decency, intellect, and service to humanity.
“His passing is a monumental loss, not only to his family and the people of Kwara State but also to the entire North Central, the Middle Belt, and Nigeria at large. His ideals live on, and his legacy will continue to guide us as we strive to build a more just, united, and prosperous nation.
“On behalf of my family, friends, and political associates, I extend my deepest condolences to the Adebayo family, the government and people of Kwara State, and all those who mourn this irreparable loss.”
