Lagos boosts VIO operations with five patrol vehicles

The Lagos State government has boosted the operations of the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) with five new Toyota Hilux pickups, to enable them checkmate the activities of indiscipline motorists on the road.

The Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, who disclose this during the commissioning of the vehicles at Alausa recently the need to increase the fleet of vehicles of the Vehicle Inspection Officers became necessary in order to address the indiscriminate acts of motorists especially commercial bus operators who park indiscriminately on the roads and at undesignated bus stops to pick and discharge passengers especially at CMS, Apongbon, Dopemu to Iyana Ipaja, Along  Abeokuta Expressway.

Opeifa who condemned the continuous abuse of Apongbon, CMS, Oworonsoki,  Alapere –Tollgate and Ikeja Along to mention just a few by commercial bus operators said that henceforth no commercial bus operators should stop or park at unapproved bus stops.

He said that with the additional five vehicles, the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) would be able to monitor and ensure that all vehicles which ply the roads are roadworthy and that commercial vehicles do not have any inscription written on them.

He said that the Vehicle Inspection Officers, Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Task force have been directed to ensure that commercial bus operators comply with this directive. He added that anyone found to violate the directive will be appropriately sanctioned.

The Commissioner warned the conductors of commercial buses to desist from hanging on their vehicles rather they should always reserve a seat where they will sit down conveniently in order to ensure the protection of their lives.

Opeifa implored commuters to cooperate with the State Government by ensuring that they do not encourage commercial bus operators to flout the Law.

He enjoined motorists and other road users to at all time obey vehicle inspection rules, traffic rules and regulations as these laws according to him are made in their own interest.
